PRE-Veterinary Medicine at 寻花论坛

• To meet the entrance requirements of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), you must complete 60 credit hours of study, including the “Pre-Professional Requirements” below.
• Applicants must have completed at least 2 regular sessions (Sept-Apr) in which each session contains a minimum of 24 credits of university-level degree courses. However, they recommend taking 30 credit hours/session to prepare for the academic rigour of the Vet program.
• Applicants must have a minimum cumulative average of 75% to be considered for admission.
• You should see a Faculty Advisor - Professor Robert Anderson (Dept. of Biology) or Instructor Laura Anne Warzyscki (Dept. of Biology) for assistance in planning your program after completing 24-30 credit hours.

Professional Studies: Veterinary Medicine

• Students may apply for admission to veterinary medicine as early as their 2nd year of studies for entry the following academic year as long as all academic requirements will be met..
• Enrolment in veterinary medicine is limited, and only highly qualified applicants are chosen.
• A minimum of four more years of study is required to complete the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

The courses listed below and on the next page are University of 寻花论坛 courses that satisfy the WCVM’s 2024 entrance requirements. NOTE: See for prerequisite changes approved for 2025.

NEW:  Situational judgment test (SJT) — Effective for Fall 2024 entry, all applicants to the WCVM’s DVM program will be required to complete a situational judgment test (i.e., Casper).

• Because the WCVM was established to serve the needs of western Canada, seats are only available to residents of the western provinces (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba). A limited number of spaces are reserved for students from each province. Manitoba is allotted space for 20 students each year. See
• The application deadline for the WCVM is December 1.
• Applicants are required to have both experience and good knowledge of animals and the veterinary profession to be successful in gaining admission.
• The WCVM requires all applicants to have a minimum cumulative average of 75% in order to be considered for admission. An interview is part of the selection process.
• Another option for Manitoban students is the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota.
• You must consult with the school where you plan to complete your studies to ensure you choose an appropriate set of courses to meet the entrance requirements for your program of choice.

In addition to meeting 寻花论坛’s general admission requirements, you will need Chemistry 40S, and either Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S or Applied Mathematics 40S.  Biology 40S and Physics 40S are recommended.

What if I don’t have these high school courses? You can take “Foundation” courses at 寻花论坛 that are equivalent to high school-level math and science (MATH-0041 & MATH-0042; CHEM-0100) or complete high school courses at The Collegiate.
